Link Exchange Resources for Your Website
A Sample of One Way & Reciprocal Link Exchange Request Letters
Be very careful in crafting your link exchange request letter. Use this link exchange resources page to guide you as you gain more hands-on experience.
You only have one chance to come across as someone credible to trade links with. It is important to ensure that your request letter is grammatically correct and free of spelling errors before sending it out. Be courteous and polite as you are asking for a favor.
Ensure that you have come up with at least 75 to 100 good quality content, non-competitive sites with a good
Page Rank and visitor traffic of their own to exchange links with. Be very clear with your request for reciprocal linking.
After you have thoroughly researched the potential sites to ensure they are appropriate and have links to other sites as well, follow the steps below:
- Introduce yourself and describe your site’s subject and how it relates
to them.
- Discuss the potential relationship by offering to exchange links.
Explain the benefits to them in case they are not aware of the benefits from
Link Exchanging.
- Provide the HTML code for the link so the Webmaster can include it into
his page code. Providing a code gives you more control over the design and
feel of your link as well as the keywords that you choose to incorporate in
it.
- Follow up to ensure both parties have performed what was agreed on by
posting each other’s link to their own sites.
Always be cautious in how you display your partners’ links on your website. The last thing you want to do is turn into a Link Farm. A Link Farm is a repository of website links without providing much other value. Link Farms are viewed negatively by Search Engines and are often penalized in the Organic Ranking hierarchy.
The best way to avoid this is to build a site with Good Website Content and have a separate section with all partner links. I have seen this section called "Resources" on many sites. It is a separate section on the website just like any other section like “About Us” and “Contact Us” to provide some examples.
Organize your partners into categories or a directory page for each category or directory. Visitors can then go into each and view a number of partner links within the category. Try to keep each category’s link count to a 25-30 maximum. Make sure that every link relates to the subject of your website in some manner.
Also, don’t just put up the links. Try to summarize each link or at the very least provide a description. Not only does this provide your visitor with more value but it also adds more content to your website that can be helpful for Search Engine Optimization (“SEO”) purposes.
This is an example of a one way link exchange resource letter (also known as non reciprocal link exchange) you might consider sending to have another site link to yours without having or wanting to include their link to your site.
